The German Timber Industry Council is the leading organization within the German timber industry. Its task is to represent the common interests of the timber industry on fundamental issues.

Around the conference centre (Hotel Maritim) one may find the:
  • "Plaza of Diversity" (12.05.08.-30.05.08) Primarily aimed at delegates and
  • "Exhibition of Diversity" (27.05.08.-30.05.08 = High-level segment) Aimed at delegates and the general public.
This event is being organized by the German Environmental Foundation (DBU). Governmental and non-governmental organizations, companies, associations and research institutes, both domestic and foreign, have been invited to Bonn to present their projects, plans and ideas concerning biological diversity at the conference.

Presentation by the forest and timber industries at the 'Plaza of Diversity'.
Forest habitats are of fundamental importance with regard to biological diversity. The German forest and timber industries are held up as exemplary models throughout the world with respect to the sustainability of forests and the efficient use of timber. At the 'Plaza of Diversity', the German forestry and timber industries are together planning to demonstrate their success as a branch of the economy, which produces and uses wood as a renewable raw material whilst simultaneously preserving biological diversity..

The forest and timber industries are exhibiting in a wooden pavilion, which has been specifically designed and built for the conference. The length of each side of the cube is 4.85m. Its volume corresponds exactly to the amount of wood which is renewed in Germany's forests every thirty
